Redeeming Books of Discovery eBook Codes

There are a three ways to view your eBook powered by VitalSource. They are via the downloaded bookshelf, via an online version of the bookshelf and via an App. The code cannot be redeemed via the App so only use the App once the code has been redeemed either through the downloaded bookshelf or through the online view website (online.vitalsource.com)

The first option is to download the VitalSource bookshelf software onto the Laptop or PC that you are likely to use the most. Once the bookshelf is downloaded, you then redeem the code and the eBook will be downloaded. You will then be able to view it through the bookshelf even when you are offline. It is recommended that all users download the bookshelf. The instructions are as follows:

If you are a first time user:

  • Download Bookshelf. (http://www.vitalsource.com/downloads)
  • Install Bookshelf. You can find step-by-step instructions online (http://support.vitalsource.com/faqs/gettingstarted/gs-1001)
  • Once Bookshelf is installed, launch Bookshelf.
  • Click on the “Register for an Account” link.
  • Fill out the form completely, and paste your code into the redemption code field
  • Press the register button to create your account and redeem your code.
  • Your book will begin to download.
  • After the book has downloaded, click on “All Titles” in the collection pane and double click on your book to open it.

If you have already downloaded the VitalSource Bookshelf from a previous eBook purchase.

  • Launch Bookshelf.
  • Go to the Account Menu and Select Redeem Code.
  • Enter in your redemption code, and press the Redeem button
  • Your updated booklist will be downloaded to your computer, once download your book will begin to download as well.
  • Once the eBook has been downloaded, click on “All Titles” in the collection pane and double click on your book to open it.

You can also view your eBook via an online version of the bookshelf. If you decide not to download the bookshelf then this is an alternative option, however you will need to be online to be able to firstly download it and secondly view it each time. You can choose both to download the bookshelf and occasionally view it online. It does not have to be one or the other. The online access will only last a year from when the code is registered but you will have perpetual access through the VitalSource Bookshelf which can be downloaded on up to 4 devices (two computer & two mobile). 

To view online:

  • Go to (http://online.vitalsource.com)
  • If a first time user, Register for account
  • If a returning user, sign in with your Bookshelf account email address and password.
  • If you have already downloaded the bookshelf onto your device and redeemed the code, click on the name of the title to open the book. Otherwise click on “Manage” and then “Redeem” to redeem the code.
